8TH GRADE · THERMAL PHENOMENA
Thermal conduction, convection and radiation
Three methods of heat transfer and their application.
The entire theory of the lesson is collected here; you can read it without an account. In interactive mode, the same theory appears as cards, followed by questions. with checking the answer and task, and progress is saved.
Basic Concepts
Thermal conductivity
Transfer of internal energy upon contact of particles without transfer of matter as a whole.
Metals usually conduct heat well, and air and porous materials are used as heat insulators.
Convection
Transfer of energy by flows of liquid or gas resulting from differences in density.
Warm layers tend to rise and cooler layers to sink; Convection is impossible in solids.
Thermal radiation
Transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves that does not require matter between bodies.
Solar energy passes through the vacuum of space, and dark matte surfaces absorb radiation well.
Physical quantities
Heat transfer time
Duration of the internal energy transfer process.
