Basic Concepts

3 concepts

Parallel circuits

The elements are connected to one pair of nodes, so the voltage on each branch is the same.

The total current is equal to the sum of the branch currents, and adding a new branch reduces the equivalent resistance.

Equivalent resistance

One resistance that, at the same voltage, draws the same total current as the entire combination.

For parallel branches, the equivalent resistance is less than any individual resistance.

Mixed chain

The circuit contains series and parallel groups, which are simplified in stages.

First, the equivalent of the obvious group is found, then the transformation is repeated to one resistance.
